A very beautiful and amazing carved mother of pearl plate or tray. This piece is East Asian, likely Chinese in origin. It has been carved in the shape of a dragon curled around itself with water splashing around. Traditionally, Chinese dragons were associated with water rather than fire. Based on the size and the thickness, we believe this came from a mollusk from the South Seas, maybe Tahitian.
